Emotional stress and anxiety are rampant in today’s society. The two are intimately related and affect the body in much the same way. Both rob people of their very lives as they are the number one aspect of disease. For the purposes of this article, both will be referred to as emotional stress. Emotional stress causes the sympathetic system to react. While this is good in “fight or flight” situations, constantly being under the pressure of emotional stress is unhealthy. Amongst several problems, emotional stress prohibits blood from pumping into the digestive tract, increases glucose within the blood and raises cortisol.
Emotional stress brings on heart attacks, lowers the immune system, causes premature aging and causes mental disease. These are but a few instances where stress plays a major factor, but the truth is that there isn’t one aspect of the body emotional stress does not touch in some way. It makes sense that to cure or prevent these diseases caused by emotional stress, one must get rid of emotional stress. Give the body a literal fighting chance to fight off the effects of stress by providing it with nourishment in the form of supplements.
B vitamins are especially helpful in reduction of emotional stress as they assist the body in producing serotonin and dopamine. Dopamine and serotonin exhibit calmness in the body. Serotonin is responsible for eliciting a calm feeling in the body. Vitamin B1, or thiamine, not only helps with emotional stress, but depression and memory. Vitamin B2, or riboflavin, affects how the body reacts to emotional stress, such as in the form of depression or headaches.
It is also useful in strengthening the immune system, which also takes a hit from extended emotional stress. Vitamin B3, or niacin, helps the body to produce serotonin. It also helps the body respond to stressful happenings and regulates cortisol. Vitamin B5, or pantothenic acid, assists the adrenal glands, which in return helps to avoid excess cortisol and adrenaline. It also helps to produce acetylcholine which increases focus and attention span. Vitamin B9, or folic acid, lowers the presence of homocysteine in the brain. Homocysteine is responsible for causing psychiatric disturbances and also is responsible for how one perceives emotional stress. Vitamin B12 assists the body it its formation of red blood cells. It is believed that vitamin B12 reduces the symptoms of emotional stress and maintains health in the nervous system.
Natural fibers supplements and other herbs, such as kava kava, valerian and celery seed are useful in remaining stress-free. By aiding the body with supplements that lower the effects of emotional stress, one could lead a more fulfilling and healthy life.
